Our Philosophy

The Montessori Method

An education approach that honors the natural development of children and fosters a lifelong love of learning.

Over 100 Years of Excellence

What is Montessori?

The Montessori method, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori over a century ago, is an educational approach based on scientific observations of children. It emphasizes independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child's natural psychological, physical, and social development.

In a Montessori classroom, children choose their own activities from a carefully prepared environment, work at their own pace, and learn through hands-on exploration with specially designed materials. The teacher serves as a guide, observing each child and offering lessons tailored to their individual readiness.

What that looks like changes with the age of the child, which is why the method is taught in three distinct prepared environments. Babies begin in the Infant community, where the work is movement, language and secure attachment. Around eighteen months they move to the Toddler environment and the practical-life materials that build independence. At three they enter the multi-age Primary classroom, where the academic materials — the beads, the moveable alphabet, the geography puzzles — come into their own.

If you are still weighing all of this against a conventional program — which is where most families are at this point — we have written the honest comparison of Montessori and daycare, including the situations where a conventional program is the better choice for a family.

Key Principles

The Science Behind the Method

The Absorbent Mind

From birth to age six, children have an extraordinary ability to absorb information from their surroundings effortlessly. Montessori environments are carefully prepared to take advantage of this sensitive period.

Sensitive Periods

Children pass through specific windows of time when they are especially drawn to certain activities — language, order, movement, social skills. We recognize and respond to these periods.

The Prepared Environment

Every element in our classrooms is intentional — from the height of the shelves to the arrangement of materials. The environment itself is the teacher.

Hands-On Materials

Montessori materials are designed to move from concrete to abstract. Children manipulate physical objects to internalize complex concepts — from math to grammar to geography.

The Montessori Advantage

Why Do So Many Families Choose Montessori?

The clearest answer is usually the classroom itself. Families who want to see the method carried all the way through to kindergarten readiness tend to start with our Plano preschool write-up.

Individualized Learning

Lessons are designed and given to individual children when they are most ready to learn. Each child progresses at their own natural pace.

Whole Child Education

Social, emotional, and physical development are emphasized alongside academic skills, nurturing well-rounded individuals.

Empowered by Choice

Freedom to move and choose activities fosters independence, self-confidence, and intrinsic motivation to learn.

Supported by Research

Current neurology and human development research consistently validates the effectiveness of the Montessori approach.
