Mission, Vision & Values
Vision Statement
To be a leading Montessori school where every child discovers the joy of learning, develops a strong sense of self, and becomes a compassionate, confident, and capable member of the global community.
Mission Statement
To nurture each child’s natural desire to learn through an authentic Montessori education that fosters independence, critical thinking, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning in a diverse and inclusive community.
Core Values
- 1.Independent Work — We cultivate independence by allowing children to choose their own work, explore at their own pace, and develop self-discipline through purposeful activity in a carefully prepared environment.
- 2.Whole Child Development — We are committed to the development of the whole child—intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically—recognizing that true education extends far beyond academics.
- 3.Kindness, Respect & Care — We foster a community built on mutual respect, kindness, and care for one another, where children learn to appreciate differences and treat all people with dignity.
- 4.Lifelong Love of Learning — We inspire curiosity and a passion for discovery that extends beyond the classroom, nurturing learners who seek knowledge and understanding throughout their lives.
Montessori Curriculum
The Montessori curriculum is a comprehensive, child-centered approach to education developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. It is designed to meet the developmental needs of each child through hands-on, self-directed learning in a thoughtfully prepared environment. Our classrooms feature specially designed Montessori materials that invite exploration and discovery across five key areas: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, and Cultural Studies.
Children work individually and in small groups, guided by trained Montessori educators who observe each child’s interests and readiness to introduce new concepts. This approach allows children to progress at their own pace, building deep understanding and mastery rather than simply memorizing facts.
Attributes We Strive to Develop
Diversity Statement
Meridian Montessori of Plano celebrates and embraces diversity in all its forms. We believe that a diverse learning community enriches the educational experience for all children and prepares them to thrive in a multicultural world. We are committed to creating an environment where every child feels valued, respected, and included regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, family structure, socioeconomic background, or ability.
Non-Discrimination Policy
Meridian Montessori of Plano admits children of any race, color, national and ethnic origin, religion, sex, or disability to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. We serve children from 6 weeks through 9 years of age and do not discriminate in the administration of our educational policies, admissions, or any school-administered programs.

- Current immunization records or valid exemption affidavit
- Signed acknowledgment of the Parent Handbook
- Emergency contact and authorized pick-up information

Immunization Requirements
All children enrolled at Meridian Montessori must have current immunizations as required by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). An up-to-date immunization record must be on file before the child’s first day of attendance. Parents who choose to file an exemption from immunizations must submit the appropriate affidavit as outlined by the state of Texas. Children with provisional enrollment status due to pending immunizations must complete the required schedule within the time frame specified by DSHS.
Hearing and Vision Screening
Texas state law requires that children be screened for possible vision and hearing problems. Screening is required for children aged 4 years and older within 120 days of enrollment. Parents may have their child screened by a licensed professional and submit the results to the school, or the school will arrange screening as required. Results will be kept on file and parents will be notified if any concerns are identified.
Special Care Needs
If your child has any special care needs, allergies, medical conditions, or requires accommodations, please notify the Director during the enrollment process. We will work with you to develop an individualized care plan to ensure your child’s safety and comfort. All special care plans must be documented in writing and signed by the parent and Director.
Payment and Enrollment Agreement
By enrolling your child at Meridian Montessori of Plano, you agree to the following terms and conditions:
1. Monthly Tuition
Tuition is due on the 1st of each month and is considered late after the 5th of the month. A late fee of $30 per business day will be applied for each business day the payment remains outstanding after the 5th. Tuition is charged for the full month regardless of absences, holidays, school closures, or withdrawal mid-month. Tuition rates are set annually and may be adjusted with 30 days’ written notice.
2. Early Drop-Off and Late Pick-Up
A fee of $1.00 per minute will be charged for children picked up after their scheduled dismissal time. This includes all dismissal times: half-day (12:00 PM), school day (3:00 PM), and extended day (6:00 PM). Early drop-off before the child’s scheduled start time is also subject to a $1.00 per minute charge. Late fees are due immediately and will be added to the next tuition invoice if not paid at pick-up.
3. Costs of Collection
In the event that the school must pursue collection of any unpaid tuition, fees, or charges, the parent or guardian agrees to be responsible for all costs associated with collection, including but not limited to attorney’s fees, court costs, and collection agency fees.
4. Notice of Termination
Enrollment agreements may be structured as month-to-month or yearly commitments. Month-to-month agreements may be terminated by either party with 30 days’ written notice. Yearly agreements are binding for the full academic year and may only be terminated early under the withdrawal policy outlined below. The school reserves the right to terminate enrollment at any time for non-payment, policy violations, or other cause as described in this handbook.
5. Withdrawal Policy
30 days’ written notice is required for all withdrawals. Tuition is due for the full 30-day notice period regardless of the child’s last day of attendance. The final payment will be calculated based on the notice period and any outstanding balances. The enrollment deposit is returned after your child disenrolls, or may be applied to the final month’s tuition, provided the 30 days’ written notice above is given. It is forfeited if that notice is not given. Early departure from a yearly agreement may be subject to an early termination fee as outlined in the enrollment agreement.
6. Behavior, Performance, and Dismissal
The school reserves the right to dismiss a child whose behavior consistently disrupts the learning environment or poses a safety risk to other children or staff, after reasonable efforts have been made to address the behavior in partnership with the family. Dismissal may also occur if the school determines that it cannot adequately meet the child’s individual needs. In the event of dismissal, tuition will be prorated to the last day of attendance and any remaining balance will be refunded.
7. Force Majeure
In the event that the school is unable to operate due to circumstances beyond its control, including but not limited to natural disasters, pandemics, government orders, utility failures, or other force majeure events, tuition obligations will continue during temporary closures. The school will make reasonable efforts to provide alternative programming or make-up days when possible. Extended closures lasting more than 30 consecutive days may result in a tuition adjustment at the school’s discretion.

Important: No arrivals will be accepted after 10:45 AM unless prior arrangements have been made with the Director. Late arrivals disrupt the concentration of the entire classroom community.
Driving Guidelines
For the safety of all children, families, and staff, please observe the following driving guidelines at all times while on school property:
- Drive slowly and carefully in the parking lot at all times.
- Do not use your cell phone while driving on school property.
- Always hold your child’s hand while walking to and from the building.
- Use the designated carpool lane during arrival and dismissal times.
- Do not leave your vehicle unattended in the carpool lane.
- Observe all posted speed limits and directional signs.
Carpool Schedule
To ensure efficient and safe arrival and dismissal, please observe the following carpool windows:
Dismissal
A 5-minute grace period is provided at each scheduled dismissal time. After the grace period, a late pick-up fee of $1.00 per minute per child will be charged. Late fees are assessed based on the clock at the school and are due immediately. Chronic late pick-ups may result in a conference with the Director and potential changes to the child’s enrollment schedule.
Designated Pick-Up Person and Child Safety
Children will only be released to individuals listed on the authorized pick-up form. Photo identification will be required for anyone the staff does not recognize. If someone not on the authorized list needs to pick up your child, written or verbal authorization from the parent must be provided to the Director in advance. Under no circumstances will a child be released to an unauthorized individual.
If a custody order or other legal document restricts who may pick up your child, a copy of the order must be provided to the school. The school will follow all legal orders regarding custody and pick-up restrictions.
Absences
If your child will be absent, please notify the school by 8:00 AM on the day of the absence via email or phone. Consistent attendance is important for your child’s development and for maintaining the rhythm of the classroom community. Tuition is not adjusted for absences. If your child will be absent for an extended period (more than 5 consecutive days), please notify the Director in writing.
Weather Closures
Meridian Montessori of Plano follows Frisco ISD for weather-related closures and delays. If Frisco ISD closes or delays opening due to weather, Meridian Montessori will follow the same schedule. Notifications will be sent via email and posted on social media. No tuition adjustments will be made for weather-related closures.
First Few Days
Starting at a new school is a significant transition for young children and families alike. Some degree of separation anxiety is normal and expected. Here are some tips to help ease the transition:
- Maintain a positive and confident attitude at drop-off. Children take cues from their parents.
- Develop a short, consistent goodbye routine (e.g., one hug, one kiss, a wave at the door).
- Avoid lingering or returning after saying goodbye, even if your child is upset.
- Trust the teachers. They are experienced in helping children through transitions.
- Most children settle within minutes of their parent’s departure.
- Feel free to call the school for an update after drop-off. We are happy to reassure you.
Day to Day Operations
School Uniforms
Primary students (ages 3–6) are required to wear school uniforms each day. The uniform policy helps children focus on their work rather than clothing and fosters a sense of community and belonging.
- Tops: Navy blue or white polo shirt (no logos other than school logo)
- Bottoms: Khaki or navy blue pants, shorts, skorts, or skirts
- Shoes: Closed-toe shoes with rubber soles (no sandals, flip-flops, or crocs)
- Cold weather: Navy blue sweater, cardigan, or fleece
Infants and toddlers are not required to wear uniforms but should wear comfortable, weather- appropriate clothing that allows freedom of movement. Please label all clothing and personal items with your child’s name.
Physical Activity
Physical activity is an essential part of healthy development. Our physical activity programming is age-appropriate and designed to develop gross motor skills, coordination, and a love of movement:
- Infants (6 weeks to 12 months): Supervised tummy time, sensory exploration, and age-appropriate movement activities throughout the day. Infants are given ample opportunity to move freely in safe, supervised spaces.
- Toddlers (12 months to 3 years): Daily outdoor play (weather permitting), indoor movement activities, music and movement, and large motor activities. A minimum of 60 minutes of active play is provided daily.
- Primary (3 to 6 years): Structured and unstructured outdoor play, yoga, coordination exercises, and movement integrated into the Montessori curriculum. A minimum of 60 minutes of active play is provided daily, including at least 30 minutes outdoors (weather permitting).
Screen Time Policy
Meridian Montessori of Plano has a strict NO SCREEN TIME policy. In alignment with Montessori philosophy and pediatric health recommendations, no televisions, tablets, computers, or other screen-based devices are used for entertainment or instruction in our classrooms. The Montessori method emphasizes hands-on, concrete learning experiences, and we believe that screen-free environments best support children’s concentration, creativity, and social development.
Water Activities and Field Trips
Meridian Montessori of Plano does not conduct water-based activities (swimming, wading pools, sprinklers, or water tables with standing water) or off-campus field trips at this time. All learning activities take place on our campus in safe, supervised environments.
External Employment of Staff
Parents and guardians may not privately employ current school staff members (including teachers, assistants, and administrative staff) for babysitting, tutoring, nannying, or any other personal services outside of school hours without prior written approval from the Director. This policy protects the professional relationship between families and staff and ensures the school maintains appropriate boundaries.
Nap and Quiet Time
In accordance with Texas licensing requirements, a rest period is provided for all children aged 18 months and older who are in care for more than 5 hours. Children who do not fall asleep within 30 minutes or who wake early will be offered quiet activities such as books, puzzles, or drawing. Parents may provide a small blanket and fitted crib sheet for nap time. The school provides cots or mats. All bedding is sent home weekly for washing.
Infant Safe Sleep Policy
SIDS Prevention and Safe Sleep Practices
Meridian Montessori is committed to providing a safe sleep environment for all infants in our care. Our safe sleep practices follow the guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and Texas HHSC:
- Infants are always placed on their backs to sleep.
- Cribs meet current safety standards and have firm, flat mattresses with fitted sheets.
- No blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, bumper pads, or other soft items are placed in cribs.
- Infants are never placed to sleep in car seats, swings, bouncers, or other equipment.
- Room temperature is maintained at a comfortable level; sleep sacks may be used in lieu of blankets.
- Sleeping infants are visually checked at least every 15 minutes.
- Swaddling is not permitted at the center.
Toilet Learning
Meridian Montessori follows a child-led approach to toilet learning that aligns with Montessori principles of independence and readiness. When a child shows signs of readiness, our teachers will work collaboratively with parents to establish a consistent routine. Children who are toilet learning should come to school in underwear (not pull-ups, unless specified by the teacher) with at least 3 complete changes of clothing. Toilet learning is approached with patience, encouragement, and no shame or punishment.
Birthday Celebrations
Birthdays are celebrated at Meridian Montessori with the beautiful Montessori tradition of the Celebration of Life. During this ceremony, the birthday child walks around a representation of the sun once for each year of life while the class sings and the teacher shares highlights from each year. Parents are invited to send in photos of their child from each year of life to share during the celebration.
If you wish to bring a treat for the class, please coordinate with the teacher in advance. All treats must be nut-free and store-bought with a visible ingredient label. No homemade treats are permitted.
No Smoking Policy
Smoking, vaping, and the use of any tobacco or nicotine products are strictly prohibited on all school property, including the parking lot, at all times. This policy applies to all staff, parents, visitors, and any individuals on school grounds.
Breastfeeding Policies and Resources
Meridian Montessori supports breastfeeding mothers and welcomes parents to breastfeed their children at the school at any time. A quiet, comfortable space is available for nursing mothers upon request. Breast milk may be provided for infant feeding and will be stored, handled, and served in accordance with safe handling guidelines. All breast milk containers must be labeled with the child’s name and date.
Communication
Communication Guidelines
Open and respectful communication between families and the school is essential to your child’s success. We ask that families observe the following guidelines:
- For non-urgent matters, please email the Director at director@meridianplano.com. You can expect a response within 24 business hours.
- Please do not engage teachers in extended conversations at drop-off or pick-up times. Teachers need to focus on the children during transitions. If you need to discuss your child’s progress, please schedule a conference with the teacher through the Director.
- For urgent matters during school hours, please call the main office directly.
- Concerns about your child’s care or experience should be directed to the Director, not discussed with other parents or on social media.
Daily Updates
Families receive daily updates about their child’s activities, meals, naps, and learning through our communication platform. Updates include photos, notes from the classroom, and information about the day’s Montessori work. Please check your daily reports regularly and contact the Director if you have questions about your child’s day.
Contact Information
Please keep your contact information current at all times, including home address, phone numbers, email addresses, emergency contacts, and authorized pick-up persons. Changes should be submitted to the office in writing as soon as possible. Accurate contact information is critical for your child’s safety and for timely communication regarding school events, closures, and emergencies.
Parent Conferences
Formal parent-teacher conferences are held twice per year, typically in the fall (October) and spring (March). During these conferences, teachers will share observations about your child’s progress, discuss strengths and areas for growth, and collaborate with you on goals for the coming months. Additional conferences may be scheduled at any time at the request of either the parent or the teacher.
Important Dates and Events
A school calendar is provided to all families at the beginning of the year and is also available on our website and parent portal. The calendar includes all scheduled holidays, closures, special events, conference dates, and other important dates. Please review the calendar carefully and plan accordingly. Updates to the calendar will be communicated via email.
Behavior Support & Management
Positive Discipline Approach
Meridian Montessori uses a positive discipline approach that is consistent with Montessori philosophy and child development best practices. Our goal is to help children develop self-regulation, empathy, and problem-solving skills in a respectful and supportive environment. Our approach includes:
- Praise and encouragement for positive behaviors and effort
- Respect for each child as a capable and worthy individual
- Redirection to appropriate activities when a child struggles
- Modeling the behaviors we wish to see in children
- Clear, consistent boundaries communicated with warmth
- Natural and logical consequences rather than punishment
Four Principles of Positive Discipline
Building a trusting relationship with each child so they feel safe and supported.
Treating children with the same dignity and respect we expect in return.
Focusing on developing internal motivation and self-discipline rather than compliance.
Teaching children the skills they need to navigate social situations and solve problems.
Biting and Challenging Behavior
Biting, hitting, and other challenging behaviors are a normal part of early childhood development, particularly for infants and toddlers who are still learning to communicate their needs. When these behaviors occur, our teachers respond with the following approach:
- Immediate response: The teacher calmly intervenes to ensure the safety of all children. The child who was hurt is comforted first.
- Acknowledgment: The teacher acknowledges the feelings behind the behavior in simple, age-appropriate language (e.g., “I can see you are frustrated. Biting hurts. We use gentle touches.”).
- Redirection: The child is guided to an appropriate alternative activity or given tools to express their emotions (e.g., a teething toy, words to use).
- Documentation and communication: Both families are notified. Incident reports are completed and shared with parents. The identity of the other child is kept confidential.
- Pattern monitoring: If a pattern of challenging behavior emerges, the Director will schedule a conference with the family to develop a collaborative behavior support plan.
Under no circumstances will physical punishment, shaming, withholding food, or isolation be used as a form of discipline at Meridian Montessori.
Food & Nutrition
Lunches from Home
Children who do not participate in the catered lunch program must bring a nutritious lunch from home each day. Please observe the following guidelines:
- All lunchboxes and containers must be labeled with your child’s full name.
- Please use an insulated lunchbox with an ice pack. The school does not heat or refrigerate lunches.
- Do not use aluminum foil to wrap food items. Use reusable containers or bags instead.
- Pack foods your child can eat independently. Teachers assist but cannot spoon-feed primary-age children.
- Please pack balanced meals including protein, fruits or vegetables, and a whole grain.
Nut-Free Facility
MERIDIAN MONTESSORI IS A NUT-FREE FACILITY
Due to the severity of nut allergies, no peanuts, tree nuts, or products containing nuts of any kind are permitted on school property. This includes peanut butter, almond butter, Nutella, trail mix, granola bars with nuts, and any other nut-containing products. Please read ingredient labels carefully before packing your child’s lunch and snacks. Items containing nuts will be removed and returned home. Sunflower seed butter and soy nut butter are acceptable alternatives.
Catered Lunch Option
Meridian Montessori offers a catered lunch program for $80 per month. The catered lunch includes a freshly prepared, balanced meal served daily. Families may choose from a vegetarian or non-vegetarian menu option. The school’s catered meals do not include pork or beef. Menus are shared with families at the beginning of each month. To enroll in or withdraw from the catered lunch program, please notify the office by the 25th of the preceding month.
Snacks and Breakfast
The school provides healthy, nut-free snacks during the morning and afternoon. Snacks typically include fresh fruits, vegetables, crackers, cheese, and water. Breakfast is not served at school; please ensure your child has eaten breakfast before arrival. If your child has specific dietary requirements for snack time, please discuss them with the Director.
Special Diets and Allergies
If your child has food allergies, intolerances, or special dietary needs, a written dietary plan must be completed and signed by the parent and Director. The plan will detail the specific allergens, symptoms to watch for, emergency response procedures, and any dietary substitutions. For children with severe allergies, an epinephrine auto-injector must be provided and kept on file at the school. Allergy information is posted in the classroom and kitchen (without identifying the child by photo) and all staff are trained in allergy awareness and emergency response.
Feeding Assistance
Our teachers assist children during meal times as needed, encouraging independence and good table manners. Toddlers and primary-age children are encouraged to serve themselves, use utensils, and clean up after meals as part of the Practical Life curriculum. Teachers sit with children during meals to model positive eating habits and engage in conversation.
Infant Feeding
Parents of infants must provide written feeding instructions that are updated at least every 30 days. Instructions should include the type of formula or breast milk, feeding schedule, amount per feeding, and any special instructions. All bottles and containers must be labeled with the child’s name and date. Breast milk and formula are stored in a dedicated refrigerator and prepared according to safe handling guidelines. Infants are fed on demand and held during bottle feeding. Bottles are never propped.
Nutrition Education
Meridian Montessori integrates nutrition education into the Montessori curriculum in age-appropriate ways. Children learn about healthy food choices, where food comes from, food preparation skills, and table manners through Practical Life activities. Our nutrition practices follow the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines and recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Health & Illness Mitigation
Daily Health Check
Each child receives a brief visual health check upon arrival each morning. Staff will observe for signs of illness, injury, or changes in behavior. If a child appears ill at arrival, the parent may be asked to keep the child home for the day. Please do not administer fever-reducing medication before drop-off to mask symptoms.
Child Illness Policy
To protect the health of all children and staff, children must be kept home if they exhibit any of the following symptoms:
| Symptom | Policy |
|---|---|
| Fever | 100°F (37.8°C) or higher. Must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning. |
| Diarrhea | Two or more episodes of loose/watery stools. Must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning. |
| Vomiting | One or more episodes. Must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning. |
| Runny Nose | Thick, green, or yellow nasal discharge. Clear runny nose from seasonal allergies is permitted with a doctor’s note. |
| Rash | Undiagnosed rash, especially with fever. A doctor’s note confirming the rash is non-contagious is required to return. |
| Lice | Child must be treated and nit-free before returning to school. |
| Communicable Diseases | Includes but not limited to: chickenpox, hand-foot-and-mouth disease, strep throat, conjunctivitis (pink eye), RSV, influenza. Doctor’s clearance required to return. |
24-Hour Symptom-Free Rule
Children must be symptom-free for a full 24 hours (without the use of symptom-suppressing medication) before returning to school. This means 24 hours with no fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. This policy protects all children and staff from the spread of illness and allows your child time to fully recover.
Immunization Requirements
All children must have current immunizations as required by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Updated immunization records must be provided to the school whenever new vaccines are administered. Children who are not current on immunizations may be excluded from care until records are updated, unless a valid exemption affidavit is on file.
Special Care Needs
If your child has a chronic medical condition (such as asthma, diabetes, seizure disorder, or severe allergies), a written individualized care plan must be on file. The plan must be completed by the child’s physician and signed by the parent. All staff who interact with your child will be trained on the care plan, including emergency procedures and medication administration.
Dispensing Medication
Medication Administration Policy
- A signed Medication Authorization Form must be completed by the parent for all medications, including prescription and over-the-counter medications.
- All medications must be in the original container with a pharmacy or manufacturer label that includes the child’s name, medication name, dosage, and administration instructions.
- Medications are administered by administrative staff only (not classroom teachers).
- Scheduled medications are administered at 11:30 AM and 3:00 PM unless otherwise specified by a physician’s order.
- A medication log is maintained for each child recording the date, time, dosage, and staff member who administered the medication.
Insect Repellent and Sunscreen
Please apply sunscreen and insect repellent to your child at home before arrival. The school will reapply sunscreen for outdoor play only if a signed authorization form and a labeled bottle of sunscreen are provided. Sunscreen must be at least SPF 30 and labeled with the child’s name. Spray sunscreens are not permitted due to inhalation risks; please provide lotion-based sunscreen only.
Medical Emergencies
In the event of a medical emergency, the school will follow this procedure:
- A — Assess: A trained staff member will assess the situation and administer first aid as needed. All lead teachers and administrative staff are certified in Pediatric First Aid and CPR.
- B — Begin emergency response: If the situation is life-threatening, call 911 immediately. Administer emergency medication (e.g., epinephrine auto-injector) as directed by the child’s emergency care plan.
- C — Contact parents: Parents or emergency contacts will be notified immediately. If parents cannot be reached, the emergency contacts listed on file will be called.
- D — Document: An incident/accident report will be completed and provided to the parent. A copy is maintained in the child’s file.
- E — Escort: If the child requires transport to a hospital, a staff member will accompany the child in the ambulance and remain until a parent arrives.
Epinephrine Auto-Injectors
For children with known severe allergies requiring epinephrine, parents must provide at least two (2) unexpired auto-injectors to be kept at the school at all times. A completed Allergy Action Plan signed by the child’s physician must accompany the auto-injectors. All staff are trained annually in the recognition of anaphylaxis symptoms and the proper administration of epinephrine auto-injectors. Used auto-injectors will not be disposed of by the school but will be sent home with the parent for proper disposal.
Emergency Preparedness
Evacuation and Emergency Sheltering
Meridian Montessori conducts regular fire, severe weather, and lockdown drills in accordance with Texas licensing requirements. In the event that an evacuation of the building is required, children and staff will evacuate to our designated off-site locations:
- Primary evacuation site: Tribeca Apartments (adjacent to the school)
- Secondary evacuation site: Lone Star Park
Parents will be notified via phone and email of any evacuation. Children will only be released from the evacuation site to authorized pick-up persons with valid identification. An emergency supply kit with children’s records, first aid supplies, food, water, and blankets is maintained and transported during any evacuation.

Important Considerations
Parents are encouraged to exercise their rights responsibly and in the best interest of all children in the program. While unannounced visits are welcomed and permitted by law, we ask that visitors check in at the front desk and wear a visitor badge while on campus. Extended classroom observations should be coordinated with the Director to minimize disruption to the learning environment. If you have a concern or complaint, we encourage you to discuss it with the Director first so that we may resolve the issue collaboratively.
Parent Involvement
Open Door Policy
Meridian Montessori maintains an open-door policy for all parents and guardians. You are welcome to visit the school, observe your child’s classroom, and meet with staff at any time during operating hours. We believe that transparency builds trust, and we want you to feel confident and connected to your child’s school experience. We simply ask that you check in at the front desk upon arrival and follow the observation guidelines to minimize disruption to the classroom community.
Parent Conferences
Formal parent-teacher conferences are scheduled in October and March each year. These conferences provide an opportunity to:

Family Participation and Engagement
We believe that strong family engagement is essential to a child’s success. There are many ways to be involved in the Meridian Montessori community:
- Attend school events, celebrations, and cultural programs
- Volunteer in the classroom (reading, sharing a skill, or cultural presentation)
- Participate in the parent education workshops and seminars
- Serve on the Parent Advisory Committee
- Share your professional expertise or cultural traditions with the school community
- Support school fundraising and community outreach initiatives
Role and Influence of Families
At Meridian Montessori, we view families as essential partners in education. Parents are their child’s first and most important teachers, and the values, habits, and attitudes cultivated at home profoundly influence a child’s experience at school. We encourage families to:
- Create a home environment that supports independence, curiosity, and respect — principles that align with the Montessori approach.
- Establish consistent routines for sleep, meals, and transitions to support your child’s sense of security and order.
- Read with your child daily and limit screen time to promote language development and concentration.
- Communicate openly with the school about your child’s needs, interests, and any changes at home that may affect their behavior or well-being.
Parent Code of Conduct
To maintain a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all children, families, and staff, all parents and guardians are expected to abide by the following code of conduct:
1. Respectful Communication
All interactions with staff, other parents, and children must be conducted with courtesy, respect, and professionalism. Abusive, threatening, hostile, or disrespectful language or behavior toward any staff member, parent, or child will not be tolerated, whether in person, by phone, email, text, or on social media. Disputes and concerns should be addressed through appropriate channels (i.e., a private meeting with the Director) rather than in public or in front of children.
2. Classroom Boundaries
Parents are welcome to observe the classroom; however, during drop-off, please limit your time in the classroom to a maximum of 5 minutes. Extended parental presence during transitions can make separation more difficult for your child and disrupt the classroom routine for all children. Trust your child’s teachers to guide the morning transition. If you would like a longer observation, please schedule it with the Director.
3. Safety, Conduct, and Substance Policy
Parents and visitors must be free from the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or any substance that impairs their ability to safely care for their child while on school property. If staff suspects that a parent or pick-up person is impaired, they are obligated to offer to call an alternative authorized person or a taxi/rideshare. In the interest of child safety, the school may refuse to release a child to an impaired individual.
All Meridian Montessori staff are mandated reporters under Texas law. This means they are legally required to report any suspected child abuse or neglect to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS). This obligation supersedes any other policy or relationship.
4. Confidentiality and Custody Matters
Parents must respect the confidentiality of all children and families in the program. Do not share information about other children’s behavior, medical conditions, or incidents with anyone outside the school. Photos or videos taken at school events should not include other families’ children without their explicit permission.
If there are custody arrangements, court orders, or legal restrictions affecting your child’s enrollment or pick-up, a current copy of the legal documentation must be on file with the school. The school will follow all court orders regarding custody and access. Changes to custody arrangements must be communicated to the Director in writing immediately.
5. Cooperation and Partnership
Parents are expected to cooperate with the school’s policies and procedures as outlined in this handbook, support their child’s educational experience, and work collaboratively with staff to address any concerns. This includes timely payment of tuition and fees, prompt communication regarding absences or schedule changes, and active participation in your child’s learning journey.
Acknowledgment
By enrolling your child at Meridian Montessori of Plano, you acknowledge that you have received, read, and agree to abide by the policies and procedures outlined in this Parent Handbook. You understand that the school reserves the right to amend these policies at any time with reasonable notice to families. A signed acknowledgment form will be collected as part of the enrollment process and kept on file for the duration of your child’s enrollment.
